One of my Big Favorites.
What a sweet place. The staff are pleasant (Brent always makes my cocktail perfectly) and greet you when you arrive. Love the decor, the left-over flower shop cold case, the black and white tile floors and cozy bar. Food is indeed fresh and good. I have my favorite (molasses chicken) but have been rewarded by trying something new from the menu or venturing off the menu for a special.
Now for the very, very minor negative... being from San Francisco, I'm used to seeing menus change. Sure, they hang onto perennial favorites, but if Cheevers goes to the trouble to get good, fresh ingredients, they ought to try changing up the menu two, maybe four times a year without sacrificing their best sellers. I'm just sayin'...
Wish I could go there for lunch!
Fresh good food @ Cheevers.
My wife and I were one of many during a lunch crowd on a Tuesday at Cheever's. Plenty of parking and zero wait time getting to our table. Wait staff was very professional and waiting for an iced tea refill never occurred.
First of all, the bread that is served as a teaser before your meal arrives is out of this world.... where can I buy this stuff? If I could go just to drink wine and eat the bread, book it!
The place has an intimate feel to it while still keeping enough distance between you and your fellow patrons... not too noisy which can be a problem with some lunch crowds.
I ordered the Black Angus burger (medium) with green chile, avocado, & monterey jack cheese and prefaced that with a bowl of spicey chicken and rice soup. This was the kind of soup you wish was your entree, forget the burger, bring me some more of this soup! It was delicious with fresh ingredients and just the right amount of zing. The burger was so-so only because I found the avocado on the burger to give it too much of a "mushy" feeling. Also, the meat itself was lacking any real taste to it. Fresh fruit instead of fries rounded out the meal.
My wife had the club sandwich which wasn't too bad with the applewood smoked bacon. It actually looked more impressive than it tasted, but still not bad.
What really impressed me about this place was how fresh all the ingredients were. We live in such a drive-thru mentality that we often forget how GOOD fresh ingredients can be when done right.... and for the most part, Cheevers' does it right. Did I mention how good the bread was? Freakin' incredible!
