A Tanning Scam. Do not ever sign a contract with these people! They talked me into a $65 contract telling me I could cancel at any time, then when I decided to cancel they told me I would have to pay nearly $300! They do not understand that some of us can't afford to have dark skin in this horrible economy and were not helpful at all.

Military Members Be Careful. This company claims to have a military clause but they don't. You have to pay a termination fee when you get orders. I think they train their employees to lie about anything and everything to get you to sign up. NOT WORTH IT! Read the reviews on "ripoffreport" on the web

Biggest scam artists. SCAM SCAM SCAM! Please beware. These guys are the biggest scam artists. I have no idea how they get away with it. Anything you sign with them will automatically open a loan application for you which will ruin your credit history. This doesn't happen to just one person, happens to everyone. They will tell you it's a month to month payment, but they are LYING!!!

A great place to get a tan. I have been tanning with At the Beach on and off for years, even back when they only had 3 locations and were open 24 hours. What I enjoy about tanning there is the great choice of beds and the fact that they offer monthly plans where I can pay one price monthly and tan as much as I like.

I have had had both the long term membership, and the short term membership and each had it's advantage, but I never felt like I had been tricked or cheated into purchaseing a membership.

DISHONEST Business Practices. I can't even begin to tell you how dishonest and shady this service is. I went in person to initiate a contract to tan for one month. When I asked the front desk receptionist the terms of the contract she told me I had to cancel my membership before the month was up. I canceled 28 days after my start date and noticed on my credit card statement the next month that they charged me an additional month. When I brought this to their attention they said there was a 5 day processing wait. I did not know to allow an additional five days or I would have canceled earlier. This five day wait put me over the thirty day contract, charging me for another month. When I went to dispute it they claimed it didn't matter what the receptionist who worked there told me that the contract states the conditions of the contract. I guess I'm naive to think that the employees they have at the front desk could be trusted and honest when presenting me with information about the contract. When I called the customer service number they were very rude and even threatened to reactivate the canceled contract if I filed a dispute with my credit card company and if the money was refunded back to me they would debit my credit card again. I was very uncomfortable letting them have access to my credit card and changed my number. I withdrew my dispute so that I could end this terrible ordeal.

Contract issues. Please read this before signing a contract with this company. I have been having issues with ATB... my 2 year contract with them expired 3/08, however they continued the monthly withdrawls from my bank account. Apparently (though this was not how it was explained to me when i signed up) after your contract is up you are automatically renewed month to month. I tried to contact the corporate office several times regarding the matter without receiving a return call. I went in to the store where i tan and cancelled the month to month tanning... then proceeded to my bank and filled out an unauthorized withrawl affidavit to make sure they did not withdrawl more money. Three days later i recieved 2 letters from Affiliated Acceptance Corporation one stating that i owe $53 and the other stating that i owe $115 - both of these include late fees and return charges... they tried to run the transaction thru twice and claim that i owe $30 for each attempt. Thankfully my husband is an attorney and is taking care of it. If you are having the same issues with this company, please don't hesitate to call the B B B.

Can't Figure Out the Billing. Signed up for $50 per month plan on a two-year contract... but was happy because the cancellation fee was only $75, according to the rep.

My payments were scheduled to be drafted on the 15th of each month. First month payment went through fine. Second month I changed my bank accounts around on the 14th, so my payment was declined. TWO DAYS LATER (A Saturday), I get a letter saying my payment was declined and they were going to charge me for two months plus $30 in fees (Late Payment Fee $10; Credit Card Reclear Fee $5.00; Credit Card Decline Fee $15.00). The letter wasn't even from At The Beach, it was from a place called "Affiliated Acceptance Corporation (aka Professional Financial Services)."

It was not a lack of money issue. Just poor timing.

I called the individual location where I normally tan that Saturday (the 17th) and explained the situation. He said I could come into the store to pay just the one payment that failed, but could not take a payment over the phone. He suggested I go to ANOTHER location to make the payment, though, and rudely hung up on me.

At this point I am calling the corporate office for a resolution. The fees aren't fair for TWO DAYS LATE especially considering I called offering to rectify the issue. I am not going to pay the individual store location and then turn around to have this financial firm bill me also.

Hidden charges, I don't know who to pay... I am fairly certain at this point that I am just going to cancel.

My overall experience with the place was great, except the billing. For God's sakes, whatever you do, don't sign up for a membership with these people.

Bad customer service when I had a contract issue. should have checked them out before I got a membership and had to file my own complaint with their corporate office (they've had 246 complaints in 3 years): Read on...
